‘Marbled Busts’, Polyurethane and Pigment’, Jasleen Kaur – photography by Sylvain Deleu

Forthcoming resident Jasleen Kaur is one of five new talents in contemporary applied arts selected for the Jerwood Makers Open 2015.

The prestigious award of £7,500 supports the selected artists to realise significant new projects, offering a rare opportunity for them to freely develop creative ideas central to their practices.

Jasleen, a Scottish Indian designer, has drawn parallels between Indian devotional sculpture and traditional western portrait busts to create a trio of busts cast in hand marbled plastic which subvert both the material and subject from the revered to the everyday.

Jasleen’s new work will be on show at Jerwood Space, London from 10 July – 30 August 2015 alongside Zachary Eastwood-Bloom, Malene Hartmann Raumussen, Ian McIntyre and Silo Studio.
