Perspectives – Patrons and Contemporary Objects is Contemporary Applied Arts‘ launch exhibition to mark the opening of their new exhibition space in Southwark. The exhibition features work by nine makers including James Rigler, who was nominated by The Duke of Devonshire to make a new ambitious work in response to parts of Chatsworth House. The exhibition will be on from 21st June to the 31st August 2013.

Pippa Murphy

As a composer Pippa Murphy has been involved in performances, recordings, collaborations, installations and multimedia work in the UK and abroad. She has written music for BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 3, Scottish Opera, Hanoi Contemporary Music Ensemble, St Magnus Festival, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Mayfield Singers, Scottish Flute Ensemble, Paragon Ensemble, Aberdeen Art Gallery, Sonic Arts Network, Youth Music and COMA. She has written for numerous contemporary theatre companies including Tron Theatre, Glasgow, Traverse Theatre Company, Edinburgh, 7:84

She has devised and facilitated many community education projects, including composition workshops in Iran, over 50 composition projects in primary schools in Aberdeenshire, trained teachers in Scotland, Syria,Botswana, India and China with the British Council. She has taught at Edinburgh, St Andrew’s and Aberdeen Universities and composed with asylum seekers in Glasgow, Manchester and Edinburgh.

She completed her BMus, MA and PhD in composition at Birmingham University. She writes for Whitakers Almanac, Sunday Times and The Scotsman.

Oliver Clark

For the last 20 years Oliver Clark has made films for television and theatrical presentation, working for internationally renowned broadcasters including the BBC and for creators including New Guide to Opera, Unhold Productions and Stans Cafe.

In 2003 he directed Conflicts: Chechnya for BBC Three, which was one of the only films ever made about the Chechen war for British television. It was 30 minutes long, summed up the history of the conflicts (with personal testimony), used TATU music and was all true.

The very first episode of the much loved BBC series Coast was directed by Oliver Clark. Internally at the BBC it was regarded as a disaster – until the viewing figures came in. The style he created spawned many imitators, and the series went on to become an institution.

Oliver has produced and directed household name gardening and lifestyle programmes including Gardener’s World and Round the World in Eighty Gardens and Hairy Bikers. He won a TV Quick for Hairy Bikers Bakeation.

For a stage-show called Das Ende des Golfstroms (I woz here) Oliver made a film-lament to the gulf-stream. It was shot on location across Russia, Denmark, the Faeroes and Iceland and the few words spoken were in Russian.

Mike Cooter’s solo exhibition ‘Set Theory’ opens at Galerie GP & N Vallois on 16 May. The exhibition includes work produced by the artist during his 2012 Visual Arts residency.

Glasgow based artist James Rigler is currently showing new work at Marsden Woo gallery, London. In this solo exhibition of ceramic and mixed media objects titled “The Fading City”, Rigler explores the narrative power of historical and modern architectural elements and domestic interiors. The show is on from the 21 march – 4 May.

Mariana Castillo Deball

The Berlin-based artist Mariana Castillo Deball was co-commissioned by Cove Park, CCA Glasgow and the Chisenhale Gallery, London, in 2012 to produce new work. Mariana has just completed her second residency at Cove Park. Supported by the Henry Moore Foundation, Mariana will present new work developed here, and in Berlin and Mexico, at the CCA from 5 April 2013 and at Chisenhale Gallery from 23 May 2013. These will be the artist’s first solo shows in the UK.

In August 2012 following her residency at Cove Park, Catherine Aitken was announced the winner of Time to Design at the Danish Art Workshops. Catherine’s winning project Fade will be on exhibition at the Normann Copenhagen Flagship Store from 23rd November until 6th December 2012.

Nao Matsunaga

Nao Matsunaga is currently exhibiting a new body of work at the Diawa Anglo-Japanese Foundation. ‘My Primal Memory’ reflects on Matsunaga’s ideas and experiences of dual cultural and national identity having grown up in both Japan and England. The exhibition can be seen in the Japanese House Gallery from 19 October – 13 December.

Focusing on the relationship between print and function, Spring’s bespoke luggage and clothing features designs developed while on residency at Cove Park in 2010. The exhibition opens on 25th October and runs until 3rd December in the Review Gallery.
