Visual artist Lauren Gault lives and works in Glasgow. She was a resident in 2014 and will return in June 2018 to devise and lead workshops as part of Cove Park’s Hands-On programme. Reflecting on her residency, Lauren has written:
‘I can still see and feel the benefit that month had on my practice now, four years later. I can now, on reflection, fully recognise that it came at a crucial time – I was in between projects and trying to unpack new research and develop new languages and making around making.
Cove Park allows for a very particular type of intensity but also ‘spaciousness’ – you can focus completely on your work (through the on site accommodation and studios) whilst also experiencing a complete remove from all other familiar noise and distraction, which so often distracts and detracts from your thinking process and practice. I found that during that month I had really been able to push and develop my work intensively in new and completely unexpected ways e.g. using the site, the fabric of the studio and local resources – it felt like that one month at Cove Park was comparable to four to six months in the studio!’
Lauren has just completed a solo exhibition ‘present cOmpany’ at CCA Derry Londonderry and collaborated with Sarah Rose for their Glasgow International exhibition ‘sequins’ featuring works on and submerged in the Forth and Clyde Canal.
Lauren Gault (born Belfast, 1986) received her BA in Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee. She currently lives and works in Glasgow.
