Anna Olson is a ceramicist based in Crieff.
She is highly experimental in her work, and breaks many aspects of traditional ceramic making. Her ceramics celebrate the cracks and alchemy that occur during the process, akin to the geological processes that form the rock beneath our feet. Her current body of work is created from a series of responses to an initial cut or tear in the clay – an organic process, often without a preconceived idea of the final outcome. These considered and spontaneous artist actions create reactions, in respect to shaping the clay, the glaze choices and the firing techniques. A relationship is born between the maker and the clay, a dialogue influenced by time and place. Through this, relationships within the form start emerging, as well as between edges, planes and surfaces.
